Speakeasy Facilitator Training – DAYS 1&2

Outline
The Speakeasy facilitator training aims to equip professionals to support parents & carers to confidently discuss growing up, sex & relationships with their children. This accredited course provides delegates with information, resources and skills to deliver the Speakeasy course for parents. Delegates will also have the opportunity to discuss and view suitable resources and will be provided with a Speakeasy facilitator handbook.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A THREE DAY COURSE AND DELEGATES ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND All 3 DAYS
Description
A recent Department for Education (DfE) research report states that:

‘Children with higher levels of emotional, behavioural, social and school well-being on average have higher levels of academic achievement and are more engaged in school, both concurrently and in later years.’

Evidence shows that good, early sex and relationships education can raise the age young people first try sexual activity, can cut the rate of teenage pregnancies, STIs and abortions and can help children stay safe and develop emotionally.

“Children have made it clear that they want their parents to be their first educators about sex and relationships. Most parents feel the same way but far fewer parents actually talk to their children about these important topics. Researchers have found that SRE is more effective if both home and school are involved ” Sex Education Forum 2013.

This is a three day course. Participants are expected to complete all 3 days and complete a portfolio for their accreditation. This course would normally cost £585 + accreditation costs, however it has been externally subsidised provided delegates attend all three days and complete accreditation. Delegates are therefore required to obtain signed authorisation from their senior management - a separate form will be emailed following booking.

If your school/organisation does not have a Leeds for Learning account or if you have any queries please contact kathryn.heaton@leeds.gov.uk.
