Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
“Just as you don’t need to be a doctor to offer physical first aid, you don’t need to be a Mental Health professional to deliver Mental Health First Aid.”
Outline
There has never been a more important time to focus on youth mental health. With 1 in 10 children experiencing a mental health issue at any one time, the Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training includes three evidence based courses certified and licensed by Mental Health First Aid England. The courses are for anyone who works with, lives with or supports young people aged 8-18yrs.
• YMHFA 2 day course will certify participants as Youth Mental Health First Aiders.
• YMHFA 1 day course will certify participants as Youth Mental Health First Aid Champions.
• YMHFA half day course (virtual and live) will certify participants as Youth Mental Health First Aid Aware.

Option 1. Youth Mental Health First Aid 2 Day Course (Face to Face)
The two day course is considered to be the “gold standard” of the three options available. Learning takes place across four manageable sessions:
Session 1: Introduction to Youth Mental Health.
Session 2: Depression and anxiety.
Session 3: Suicide and psychosis.
Session 4: Self-harm and eating disorders.
Option 2. Youth Mental Health First Aid 1 Day Course (Face to Face)
The one day Youth Mental Health Champion course is a condensed version of the 2 day option in which participants gain skills and confidence to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health issues in a young person. This option covers the basic fundamentals of the most common mental health issues affecting young people, and participants who complete the whole day are certified as “Youth Mental Health Champions”.
Option 3. Youth Mental Health First Aid Half Day (Virtual Course)
The half day, virtual “Youth Mental Health First Aid Aware” course is available as an opportunity for participants to raise their awareness of young people’s mental health. Participants who complete the half day are certified as “Youth Mental Health First Aid Aware”.
